Very foresty/savory/herbal/black olive, but all within the range of cool-grown merlot flavours, especially when its plentiful blackcurrant fruit is factored in. Definitely looks to Bordeaux rather than to warm-grown Napa Valley or Australian merlot.
This Pinot Noir will immediately impress with its smooth, easy drinking style. Whilst still only young it already shows the unmistakable characters of its Upper yarra origins. Round, fruity yet complex in nature and excellent tannin structures.
95 Points James Halliday.
